01 — Stems

Separate the track as it plays

VirtualDJ 2026 splits a playing track into vocals, instruments, kicks, hi-hats, and the rest, using the computer you already have. The split is what makes live mashups and tighter transitions possible.

With real-time stem separation on any track, live mashups and seamless transitions are the working method:

  • ModernEQ separates parts more tightly than a traditional frequency EQ, which is how the transitions stay clean.
  • Stem pads build a live mash-up or remix while the track is playing.

Acapella and instrumental, live

The same split gives you an acapella or an instrumental on any song, during the mix. Mute or isolate a part without stopping the deck.

Put the vocal from one song over the beat of another while both are playing. That mix was not available from a frequency EQ alone.

Stem separation on the EQs lets you move one element at a time, and tune those elements while the mix is live.

Thirty years as the DJ software people start with

With more than three hundred million downloads, VirtualDJ is by far the most used DJ software on the planet. Most DJs have met it at some point, whether they are starting or already working. The current build is where the newer tools show up.

DJ press has kept pointing at features that arrived in VirtualDJ before they showed up elsewhere. The point of using it is to have those tools in the set you are playing now.

  • “... putting the other choices to shame with a wealth of features...”
  • “... outmatches the competition in innovation, no other DJ software comes close”
  • “... at the cutting edge of digital DJing today. An impressive feature set...”
  • “... a killer piece of software - with features that don’t exist on competing software”

Performance you can take to a gig

Independent studies show that VirtualDJ has the lowest crash-ratio in the industry. The code is built to stay smooth on a gig, which is the reason to trust it with a set.
